It is a forum of discussion at micro level in some states while in some it is granted power to approve projects taken up by the panchayats. But the extension Act is a watershed in the sphere of devolution of powers and authority at local level, as it has empowered this corporate body in taking decisions on all vital issues affecting society and economy of the tribals. - Reproduced
