A company is now considered a social institution, interacting with the society in many ways and affecting its citizens. This institution should be governed in a rational manner, is the concern of all concious citizens - shareholders, employees, creditors, customers and government. With the onset of new millennium corporate governance has been debated with added dimensions, the world over including India. In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyse the corporate governance practices in India and signal the organisations with the new challenges of the 21st century that would have a direct or indirect bearing on the corporate governance of Indian corporate. - Reproduced
