Indian Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: With inspiration from world leaders and aspirations in e-governance of Andhra Pradesh's present Chief Minister as the backdrop, the author discusses the 8-point approach prescribed by John P. Kotter for success in grainful utilization of IT in e-governance, followed by a delineation on two indispensable components of e-governance, i.e., automation of administrative processes and creation or strengthening of institutional infrastructure. He then presents achievements of Andhra Pradesh Government in e-governance in the form of investments in laying of state-wide optic fibre and digital networks; plans for international gateway landings in the state, state-wide wireless communication network, etc.; setting up of institution for IT education; launching multiple IT-based activities through programmes like CARD, TWINS, FAST, GIS, etc., under its `SMART' government programme; and efforts for establishing public-private partnerships to take Andhra Pradesh on fast track of e-governance. - Reproduced
