Indian Police JournalSummary: Security is not a non-productive, negative concept. Rather it is more and more linked with integral risk management. Conscious efforts have been made to try to transform the vocation of security into a true profession in the real sense of the term. We have now highly qualified people in security profession, having specialised in different aspects of industrial security, and some even having obtained doctoral acclamations in the profession. Those in security business have come to realise that in these days of still competition when businessmen and industrialists have to fight for economic survival, the security men should also put in enough to prove their worth professionally and not prove a drain on the resources of a company. In the expanding role of security, therefore, loss prevention is part and parcel of a security system. Security experts are seriously engaged not only to create the right kind of security orientation among non-security employees, so essential for the success of any security system, some one has even invented "security thermometer", an instrument (a method) for measuring and analysing security awareness. - Reproduced.
