face in their pre-marital romantic relationships. This study delves into the nature and
cyclic patterns that influence an abusive dating relationship. Are abusive behaviours
passed down generations and learned in early childhood? What is characterised as an
abusive relationship? This article discusses the experience of 11 Indian women in the
age range of 20- 25 years who were subjected to abuse within their dating relationship.
Thematic analysis was used to arrive at the organizing themes including factors related
to perpetrators and victims, characteristics of abuse, families of victims and other
