The government of India has started a variety of programmes in an effort to improve the standard of research and academic achievement in the country. This paper examines the role of innovative initiatives and the challenges they bring to the country’s efforts to improve research and academic standing in India. It also discusses the enablers and barriers that India has on its path to becoming a research powerhouse, through NEP 2020. India must determine what is causing the decline in the quality of higher education research for providing inclusive and sustainable solutions. The country, moving in the right direction towards creating and pursuing fresh academic standards, is at the cutting edge of research and innovation activities with electrifying developments. – Reproduced
