IASLIC BulletinSummary: purpose :The present study is to analyse Vidyasagar’s perceptions of libraries that can be well gauged from his library collection and preservation of book Methodology : The study has progressed classifying library collection primarily in four segments, namely, Bengali, Sanskrit, Hindi, and English. Bengali collection has been subdivided into Bengali language, literature, translated works, philosophy, biography, history and geography, religion, social customs and rituals, education, science, ethical texts and tales, politics etc. Similarly, the Sanskrit collection has been subdivided into mythology, sanskrit literature, language, philosophy, history, and the like. Findings :The collection of Bengali translated, literary and linguistic works signified the social value of translation and Vidyasagar’s attempt to regularise syntactical and semantical rhythm in Bengali prose writing in its formation age. Sanskrit collection and collection of educational, religious, sociological, historical, and like presaged his perceptions. His English collection comprised of the history of India and abroad. Works of stalwart English literature adorned his library collection. His literary collection justified that, he was the right person to enjoy the literary flavour of both oriental and western literature. Neo- English literate Bengalese attraction to literature was also reflected in his literary collection Originality : Social perspectives of contemporaneous Bengal reflected in the library collection and the library had been rendered as a social institution of the nineteenth century. Vidyasagar's perceptions had been followed in planning on different issues in modern India.- Reproduced
