Material type: materialTypeLabelBookPublisher: Bihar Journal of Public Administration Description: 20(2 S), Jul-Dec, 2023: p.525-535. In: Bihar Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: Agriculture has been the mainstay of Bihar’s economy and over eighty percent of population of the state depend on it. Besides, the state has resources like the land, water and labour resources in abundance. In view of the above facts, it becomes an urgent imperative to look into the agriculture policy and its prospects in Bihar. As such, the present paper intends to examine the prospects of Agriculture Policy of the state through its four phases since 2005 and trace out the prospects in various sub-sectors of agriculture. The present paper examines all the four Krishi Roadmaps (Roadmaps of Agriculture) in the light of its achievements and the challenges faced in its implementation. The paper finds that state’s response to the development of agriculture has been a holistic system which aims at enhancing the productivity, profitability, equity and environmental sustainability through integrating crop, cash crop, horticulture, livestock, fisheries, agroforestry, watershed-based soil and water management, social capital formation, agro-processing, and marketing in an end-to-end mode. However, it faces challenges in the areas of farmers’ skills and their response, data management system, resource allocation and weatherdependent activities. – Reproduced http://www.iipabiharbranch.org/
