Intellectual property (IP) rights are an umbrella used to legally protect the intangible products of the human mind, for example, inventions and artistic works. A laboratory notebook is the birthplace of inventions. It helps to understand the progress path of an experiment, avoids dead ends and repetition of errors, serves as a guide for future research direction and helps to generate IPs and technology transfer. Despite the fact that every researcher is aware of the concept of keeping a laboratory notebook, the true potential and legal implications of doing so are typically unknown.- Reproduced
