However, the fairness of the game has been questioned many times in the past, on account of the possible advantage of home-ground and toss wins. Therefore, this research study aims to examine the influence of home ground and toss wins on the outcome of Indian Premier League matches over the first fifteen years of the IPL. The chi-square test of association suggests that these effects are statistically significant at a 90 percent confidence level for a few of the matches only, but not for others at the individual match level. However, at the aggregate level, a positive effect has been found by the logistic regression model that was used to predict the probability of winning for any team. The logistic regression model was developed to predict the match outcome based on these variables taken at an aggregate level for the three most prominent IPL teams using logistic regression, since there are other variables that can influence the performance, such as bowling performance, batting performance, etc. The study also mentions the implications of the findings for game players, sponsors, patrons, regulators, etc. – Reproduced
