In: Indian Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: Rumki Basu, The United Nations: In the New Millennium. Sterling Publishers Pvt Ltd, 2022, 328 pp., ₹350 (Paperback). ISBN-10: 9393853177, ISBN-13: 978-9393853172. The 21st-century world order is changing rapidly with the development of new dimensions of technology and communications. The contemporary world has become extremely dynamic and complex due to the power shift from a bipolar to a multipolar world. The ideology has been replaced by the market, and countries with diverse ideas have also connected with each other economically (p. 174). After globalisation, the countries that had closed the doors of economic investment also adopted the liberalisation process and laid the foundation of a welfare state by taking the initiative of privatisation. Besides the United Nations, many regional organisations emerged to develop and strengthen state economic, political, trade and military relations. The objective of all these organisations, directly and indirectly, is global peace and development. After World War II, many innovations and new changes took place in the world order (p. 25), one of which was the formation of the United Nations (UN), which ended political colonialism and worked for the progress of democracy, although the conflict of ideologies and regional disputes could not end. But this democratic organisation (the UN) gave a new direction to the world. When disputes arose, a new path opened up for cooperation and harmony. Despite the UN, there are unresolved issues that are vital problems in the world. This book has critically examined such kinds of issues.- Reproduced https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/00195561241277278
