Women's position has been subject to many great changes since ancient to the present times. they never enjoyed rights equal to men. The social reform movement from the mid-19th century prepared the base for women's awakening and their entry later in political field. Their participation in the freedom movement and leadership roles forced the British Government to grant rights to women though at intervals and passing laws to reform many social evils. As women participated actively in the freedom movement, they also performed astonishing tasks while framing Indian Constitution and proved their strength by framing rules for free India. Still they are fighting for equal status along with men
