Material type: materialTypeLabelBookPublisher: Journal of Indian Ocean Studies Description: 33(1), Jan-Apr, 2025: p.1-15. In: Journal of Indian Ocean StudiesSummary: China’s strategic approach to cultivating influence in Africa is a multifaceted endeavour that underscores its long-term objective of establishing an alternative global order distinct from the Western-dominated paradigm. The nation’s efforts are particularly evident in its focus on shaping political environments through diplomatic, ideological, and educational initiatives. Although Beijing has long advocated its governance model to African political leaders, recent years have witnessed a marked intensification of its efforts to strengthen its influence. China’s prolonged engagement in Africa extends beyond mere economic influence or military presence; it also involves a sophisticated understanding of diplomacy and political leverage. By strategically investing in Africa’s political future, China is strengthening its position as a central player in shaping the continent’s governance structures for the foreseeable future. This paper examines various aspects of China’s influence operations, assessing their strategic implications for both the continent and the broader global context.- Reproduced https://www.printspublications.com/journal/article/journal-of-indian-ocean-studies/3925?srsltid=AfmBOooUfqyNCpcNnOWBWakLw0wLys21ULvQdF2YXnpp3zpEsGYgnUGP
