The Mission ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ cannot be achieved unless the states of Eastern India are developed. With this view in mind, the present paper attempts to assess the state of socio-economic development in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal and specific features of economies of these states. It further goes to underline the inhibiting factors and challenges faced by these states, issues in governance and politics and suggesting strategies to accelerate the pace of socioeconomic development in this region. – Reproduced
