Disaster management is multi-disciplinary science wherein the insights of past episodes provide the opportunity for public policy interventions and anticipatory governance initiatives. The Bhuj earthquake of 26th January 2001 and the recent floods in Orissa, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh will also be used as illustrations to review the lessons learnt from these natural calamities and to place the strategies for future in perspective. - Reproduced.
