In:
Indian Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: Water being a finite yet indispensable and vulnerable source needs to be managed scientifically. This can be achieved by augmentation of water resources on one hand and conservation and judicious utilisation on the other. Agriculture being the most water intensive sector, appropriate techniques of irrigation, cropping and conservation need to be developed and applied. The authors are of the view that the time has come when `development mode' of water resources yields to `management mode'. The prime challenge is not just supply side innovations but to put into operation a range of corrective measures for consumption pattern. They conclude by emphasising that efficient water resources management calls for full participation of all stakeholders. - Reproduced.
