Indian Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: Rural development programmes assume a place of pride in the social sector development and accordingly substantial allocation of resources has been made for these programmes particularly from the eight five year plan onwards. Rural development is a generic term connoting a vide spectrum of sectors and-sectors including agriculture and allied activities, health and education, rural water supply and sanitation, rural energy and electrification, rural infrastructure including roads, transport and communication including Information Technology and similar other sub sectors. In this article an attempt is made to highlight the outcome envisaged as against the outlays provided under the programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development. -Reproduced.
