As such there is need for sustainable, equitable, humane and socially inclusive development plan which will involve and cater to housing and basic services to the economically weaker sections, urban poor and slum dwellers in the country. A comprehensive approach to urban renewal with emphasis on social housing and slum upgradation for improving the quality of life of the urban poor and to ensure basic services to them is imperative. - Reproduced.
