Indian Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: Employment guarantee scheme like NREGS (National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) is perceived as a part of the inclusive growth strategy which aims at reducing social and economic inequalities by providing gainful employment opportunities at the local level. The NREGS was focussed on creating labour intensive asset creating works which could tackle the problem of unemployment as well as environmental regenerations and agricultural growth. This article attempts to study the performance of the scheme in Andhra Pradesh, the first state to implement the scheme in all the districts. - Reproduced.
