Some of the major global environmental issues that the world is facing include the climate change, ozone layer depletion, marine pollution, build-up of persistent organic pollutants, loss of biological diversity, desertification and land degradation, degradation of freshwater, deforestation and unsustainable use of forests. Sustainable development can best be understood in the critical triangle of development, ecological development, social development and economic development. Gujarat is today facing a life threatening challenge of growing environmental stress and the state has got the wake-up call to put together institutional and infrastructure system and procedure to effectively tackle and negativities. With the judicious combination of these three, more opportunities can be garnered not only for the present generation but for future generation too. - Reproduced.
