Indian Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: Area Studies is the multidisciplinary study of an area, from the point of view of varied disciplines such as history, economics, political science, anthropology, culture studies, linguistics, demography etc. These programmes have thrust areas and their faculty is usually drawn from specialists in two or more disciplines. Area Study Centres have functioned as resource centres, created data-bases and disseminated information about the areas under study. They have contributed to the development of scholarship and trained generations of scholars on given area and in turn have facilitated the formulation of policies.
