  <abstract>The rural and urban areas overlap on one another in jurisdictional terms to form the evolution of peri-urban areas. The peri-urban areas are the biggest drivers of economy and govern the real estate scenario by giving direction to future growth of the city. The in-depth understanding of the concept can be attained by dissecting the term peri-urban from sociological, demographic and economic perspective. The delineation of local planning area in the process of formation of Master Plan helps in an organized development scenario by giving legal backing to the type of permissible developments on the outskirts of Municipal boundaries.
