<br/><br/> Navanit Sinha discusses the role and rationale of All India Services which is an edited version of his prize winning entry in IIPA's last Annual Essay Competition. After giving an account of the historical background, Sinha discusses complex additional responsibilities which these services inherited in the form of holding elections and protecting interests of all people, setting a proper framework of functioning to suit the present socio-economic context, and providing an efficient delivery system. All these have to be in congruence with the objectives of the government.
