The paper discusses the contributions of the 1989 and 1991 elections to India's Parliamentary democracy and the open compromises and consultations between politicians from different parts of the country and coalition of different sorts between leftist and rightist parties. Gives arguments for and against presidential system of government. Money power, muscle power and caste and communal appeals and misuse of public machinery are the four major challenges faced by the Indian democracy. All the violations of law which come in the way of free and fair elections can be eliminated if from the time from which the electoral process starts till the results are declared, rule of the States Government is replaced by
