  <abstract>"This paper seeks to assess the impact of the changes in economic policy from 1977 to 1989 on the Indian economy and to examine the role of domestic factors and trade in increasing the growth rate. In contrast to the cross-country studies done previously, this is a country-specific analysis that focuses on the role of both exports and imports in an economy. The first section presents the four equations for growth, investment, industrial output, and exports that from the model and the basis for including the independent variables. The second section contains the estimation of the model, while the third section analyses the results of the estimation. The final section presents my conclusions"</abstract>
