Following a discussion on the basic nature of Indian State as reflected from constitutional pro-visions on economic justice and the Nehruvian model of economic development, the author examines the range of transformation that it will have to undergo under the impact of liberalisation process. He forewarns, in the concluding part, on its being rendered a dependent, psuedo-democratic, coercive State. - Reproduced
