Emerging patterns of urban growth in India - 1999 - p.969-78 - 17 & 23 Apr

A study of investment in India's metropolitan cities (cities with million-plus population) and their neighbourhoods during the nineties indicates the emergence of urban cores of high investment and the virtual bypassing of the remaining metropolises by liberalisation-fostered growth. As the growth patterns of the 23 metropolises tend to reflect the state of the economies of their respective regions, this bespeaks the widening of interregional economic disparities. - Reproduced
