The role of money power in elections has become a standard concern in recent discourses on electoral reforms in India. Various commissions have been set up till now, recommending ways and means to regulate the use and abuse of money in election campaigns. The article takes stock of various aspects of election funding, including state funding, and considers a certain level of institutionalised financing a must for Indian democracy. - Reproduced
