The author analyses two Supreme Court cases pertaining to allotment of some petrol pumps and shops in 1995 by the then concerned Ministers in the Union Government to establish the principles of public law involved therein and their implications for public accountability. To sensitise sufficiently the political executives regarding misfeasance and malfeasance, he also offers some suggestions. - Reproduced
