Probing the correlation between political elites' power maximisation effort and devolution of power in the post-independence decades in India, the author first identifies all the major leads thrown up during the course of unfolding of the political process which either suggest a positive or a negative correlation and the commonalities between the two. He then analyses the reasons as well as dynamics thereof to facilitate reader's understanding of the phenomenon. While concluding, he emphasises the need for reinforcements to prop up egalitarianism and engineering supportive sanctions from the masses. - Reproduced
