Concerned with the agenda of judicial reforms embedded in the market ideology of international financial institutions and aid agencies, the author analyses whether the diagnosis as well as solution reflect the interest and priorities of those providing assistance for the reforms. Are the suggested reforms sensitive to local economic, social and cultural context? The blueprint for these reforms, often thrust upon as a part of loan condition or component throw a challenge before the judiciary to assert its autonomy and freedom from State control. Can the recipient States safeguard themselves from the strings of interference attached to the much needed aid in the face of their dire economic exigencies? - Reproduced
