<br/><br/> This paper seeks to revitalise the literature on government spending in general and government borrowing in particular. It tries to make a thorough review of the empirical literature built up from the major pillar work which has been done over four decades. This is done in an attempt not only to show the extent by which various paradigms developed in theory hold in the real life context but as well as the diversity of empirical findings. However, despite the vastness of current empiricism, there are still major areas of disagreement, mixed findings and several caveats which do not make the literature comprehensive as such. Therefore, one of the main objectives of this work is to identify and address areas for further research which could be carried out both for DCs and LDCs to at least improve wisdom, consolidate current empirical findings and provide for necessary policy implications. - Reproduced
