Electronic government in Japan for better public services

Public administration and services for citizens could be improved by applying information technology. Japanese government has started new projects for establishing an electronic government. Projects for one-stop services by virtual government and inter-ministerial task forces are on the anvil. There are institutional, operational and technological issues in actualizing the electronic government, even though infrastructure has been built. Under these circumstances, current status and major issues for the electronic government in Japan are described in this paper. - Reproduced
