Contract farming for rural development - 2002 - p.13-19 - Feb

The Government is increasingly looking towards the corporate sector to augtment rural income and employment through agro-processing. Policy-makers see contract farming as an important avenue, which can ensure greater private sector participation. The new agricultural policy envisages acceleration of technology transfer, increased capital flow and assured markets for crops such as oil seeds, cotton and horticulture through contract farming - a system in which agricultural commodities are produced and supplied to buyers, mostly processors/exporters, under certain pre-negotiated conditions. - Reproduced.
