Exploring Gandhi's conception of truth as an ethical value for governance

Gandhi’s ideas carry high ethical values for society and polity. His views on truth and non-violence have proved to be effective weapon for political resistance and ideal governance. Inclusion of ethical values in public administration was recognized by western administrative scientist, particularly in minowbrook conference in 1968. Dwight waldo was the pioneer advocate of values in public administration who argued that efficiency has been overemphasized at he cost of values in four of humanity. Besides, the second administrative reforms commission has also pleaded for strengthening moral values in public administration. This makes an imperative to explore. What ethical values should be in governance and what are the sources of such values. The author finds Gandhian idea of truth and non-violence as appropriate source of moral values for citizen centric governance. – Reproduced
