The rural entrepreneurship is very important for a country like India which has huge rural population. Mahatma Gandhi has rightly pointed out that “India lives in villages”. Villages comprise the core of Indian society and represent the real India. Rural entrepreneurs are those who carry out entrepreneurial activities by establishing industrial and business units in the rural sector of the country. Agriculture continues to be the backbone of rural society. Land being limited unable to absorb the labour force in agriculture, there is a need to develop rural industries to solve the problems like rural unemployment, poverty and rural migration to urban areas. Considering the potentiality of rural entrepreneurship to strengthen the economy of India, this paper attempts to present a conceptual overview of the importance of rural entrepreneurship in Indian economy. – Reproduced
