International north-south transport corridor: Mapping vulnerabilities and possibilities for India - World Affairs - 26(3), Jul-Sep, 2022: p.28-39

The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), an ostensibly strategic project of India’s for making economic headway to Central Asia and the European region via Afghanistan and Iran, is setting up a new game theory. The US’s failed Afghan occupation changed the scenario of global politics, creating a power vacuum in the region which the various international actors like China, India, Iran, Pakistan and Russia are surging forward to occupy. The INSTC possibly offers India a new direction for its foreign policy orientation in this war-torn geographical space. Therefore, given this, the paper strives to explore the new potential of INSTC in the region keeping security situations in Afghanistan at the forefront. The paper also focuses on identifying the new vulnerabilities and viable possibilities of this multimodal transportation project with regard to India’s interests in the region. – Reproduced
