Higher bureaucracy in transition: Analysing lateral entry scheme in India - Third Concept - 37(438), Aug, 2023: p.24-27

In India, on June 10, 2018 it was perhaps the first time in history that the government of India sought the application of experts from outside career civil services. This was for ten joint secretaries’ posts for various department based on lateral entry. As we believed, the proposal for appointing experts in the concerned domain attracted disperse reactions. These debates started new inquires and reflections regarding lateral entry. The present paper will give readers on overview of concepts, rationales processes, and criticism of the lateral entry scheme. Moreover it well add to our knowledge in understanding how the lateral entry scheme could be a game changer if it manages profoundly; otherwise, this may conclude in another debacle in the administrative system in India. – Reproduce
