The history of induction of women in the Armed Forces in India starts with the formation of “The Indian Military Nursing Service” in 1888. The nurses of the Indian Army served with distinction in World War I. The role of women was further expanded with the formation of the Women’s Auxiliary Corps, which allowed them to serve in primarily non-combatant roles like communications, accounting, administration etc. – Reproduced
