Measuring information search behavior of undergraduate students of university of Delhi - IASLIC Bulletin - 68(1), Mar, 2023: p.15-28

Purpose :This paper is an attempt to explore information search behaviour of college students studying in select colleges of Delhi University. Methodology : It used questionnaire as a tool to survey students at Kirori Mal College – North Campus, Ramanujan College – South Campus & Maharaja Agrasen College – East Delhi to get responses from students in the field of Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. Findings : It revealed that majority students make use of search engines followed by book list recommended by their teachers, social networking sites, online book stores i.e. Amazon, Flipkart etc. to initiate their search for information. Keyword search followed by more than one keyword, searching for similar results and phrase search were the most frequently used search strategies amongst the students in search of e-resources. Lack of awareness is recognised as the prime cause for the less usage of boolean operators, truncation operators and proximity search. Originality : Keeping in mind current changes in the curriculum, this study would interest to the librarians and information managers catering particularly to the information requirements of undergraduate students of different disciplines to enable them to subscribe resources judiciously to build wide range of collection and offer customised services accordingly. – Reproduced
