Empowerment journey of women representatives in the panchayati raj institutions of Bihar
- Bihar Journal of Public Administration
- 20(2 S), Jul-Dec, 2023: p.638-648
Rural India is a distinct entity with its own challenges and issues, especially gendered in their manifestation. Inequality traps appear in not just economic inequality but also political inequality where women are discouraged to participate in politics which further affects their ability to meaningfully voice their woes and wishes. But introduction of new Panchayati Raj arrangements has paved their way to political arena. For past two decades women in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) have been gradually growing in terms of self-assertive roles, particularly in Bihar. With this assumption in mind, the present paper attempts to conceptualise the pattern of women’s political empowerment through PRIs. – Reproduced
