Pluralism and the Indian constitution

<br/><br/> The Constitution of India recognizes the Indian State as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic unit and cherishes the twin principles of pluralism and inclusiveness through its multiple mechanisms and provisions. It solemnly strives to secure to all its citizens justice, liberty, and equality. It also assures promotion of fraternity among all its citizens. While framing its provisions, the members of the Constituent Assembly took care of the ancient Indian ethos—Sarvadharma Sambhav (equal respect for all religions) and Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam (the whole world is the family). The Preamble epitomizes the essence of the Indian Constitution providing a key to its understanding, interpretation and guidance in the national polity and governance. This paper traces some of the evidences related with pluralism enshrined in the Indian Constitution and presents glimpses of Constituent Assembly debates about them and their present-day relevance.- Reproduced <br/><br/>http://www.iipabiharbranch.org/<br/>
