This comprehensive act replaced the erstwhile fragmented and outdated laws and established he apex food regulator of the country, the food safety and standards authority o India (FSSAI) is responsible for domestic and imported food, while the department of commerce is responsible for regulating the export of food products. FSSAI’s mandate encompasses formulating science-based standards and regulating he manufacturing, impart, distribution, and sale of food precuts.
