Poverty and the exposure to negative shocks are both associated with depression. However, the frequency of negative shocks varies only slightly by socioeconomic status and gender. Instead, poor people and women appear to be more vulnerable to negative shocks. These patterns suggest that social protection programs may foster mental health for these groups and reduce mental health disparities.- Reproduced https://www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.1257/pandp.20241060 aAEA Papers and Proceedings aPOVERTY cAR 00102ddc40709402206aIIPAbIIPAd2024-08-05h114, May, 2024: p.412-417pAR132562r2024-08-05yAR
