Debating Bureaucratic Apathy: Institutional Decay and IAS Story in India - Economic & Political Weekly - 60(20),may 17, 2025: p.27-30

The argument that the twin factors of political interference and internal incentives are the major reasons that have stymied Indian bureaucracy is only partially valid. It cannot be the sole cause of its structural inefficacy and failure. Instead of reducing the system’s malaise to the interferences of politicians, an intense introspection on the structural causes, such as the temptation for joining the service, the role of caste patronage networks, and colonial legacy, needs to be undertaken. - Reproduced
