A Political Contrivance to SDG-5 - Indian Journal of Political Science - 85(1), Jan-Mar, 2024: p.431-438

Child Marriage is no doubt a sociological problem but has wider and deeper political implications because remedial strategies to a problem are brought into fruition only in the legislative space. Political action is therefore important to cure a social ill. The pertinent question that boggles one's mind is that why there is perpetuation of child marriage and its perpetrators meet little resistance even when there are policies galore to tackle the issue. The present piece of research study focuses on the tactical attempt of the government of Odisha to eliminate child marriage through the Strategic Action Plan -2019-2024. The paper is thereby a mid-term evaluation of the programme and has retrieved facts and information from administrative officials as well as the targeted stakeholders at the Gram Panchayat level. -Reproduced
