Working harder?: Intra-household labour supply response to migration by those left behind - Economic & Political Weekly - 60(46), Nov 15, 2025: p.13-19

The redistribution of labour within the household at origin that occurs in response to migration is examined. The disruptive effect of migration is distinguished from the income effect of remittance inflows to assess the expected impact in the rural labour market using panel data for India. The results show that outmigration significantly reduces work hours of the left-behind members. However, the impact is contingent on the initial economic position of the household. – Reproduced
