The word “surrogate”, having roots in Latin “subrogare”, means “appointed to act in the place of.” The intended parent(s) is the individual or a couple who intend to rear the child after its birth.1 Surrogacy2 is an assisted reproduction procedure that makes a childless couple possible to have a child through a surrogate mother who agrees to bear a child for them.
