However, a closer look at the empirical data reveals a different reality. To address the arguments of this alleged misuse, this paper provides a considered analysis of data related to key indicators for cases registered under sections related to domestic violence. The findings highlight gross under-reporting and methodological errors in data collation by the National Crime Records Bureau, which inadvertently aid the argument of “misuse.” A comparison of the data at the national and city level for Bengaluru reveals a stark difference in conviction rates, indicating systemic issues. These data gaps limit our understanding of domestic violence and the related laws and schemes to counter it from an intersectional perspective. This paper presents suggestions for creating new data sources. –Reproduced
