Cross-country evidence suggests that higher levels of competition are associated with increased investment rates, particularly in emerging economies and in contexts characterised by low baseline investment. Industry-level evidence from India’s manufacturing sector similarly indicates a positive association between competition and investment. Notably, the effects of competition appear to be concentrated in export-oriented and digitally intensive industries. From a policy perspective, these findings point to the need for an industrial strategy that integrates competition policy with targeted investment incentives to support sustained investment growth.-Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/indias-industrial-transformation/does-competition-spur-investment.html aEconomic & Political Weekly cAR 00102ddc40709408432aIIPAbIIPAd2026-05-05h61(16), Apr 18, 2026: p.90-96pAR138774r2026-05-05yAR
